S8UL Esports’ manager Siddhant “Sid” Joshi recently shared his opinion on whether Counter Strike (CS) 2 can potentially overtake Valorant in India and across the globe. Sid believed that on a global level, there is a possibility that Counter Strike 2 could overtake Valorant as its predecessor Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) already has a growing player base. However, in India, Sid stated that Counter Strike 2 might not overtake Valorant’s popularity as the Steam games, including CS, require more resources to run the game smoothly, and the developer of CS:GO Valve has not shown significant support for the Indian gaming scene.

Sid believes Counter Strike 2 might overtake Valorant on the global level but not in India

In a recent livestream, Sid was asked his opinion on whether Counter Strike 2 can potentially overtake Valorant. Responding to this, he stated that there is a possibility that CS 2 could overtake Valorant in popularity on the global level. Despite the success of Valorant, Sid stated that CS was already doing well and had a consistently growing player base. “After the launch of CS 2, I think it will blow up. I think a lot of players that stopped playing CS:GO will return and try the game again. So, on the global level, I definitely believe that it will do very, very well,” he added.

Sid expressed his belief that Counter Strike 2 might not overtake Valorant in India for several reasons. He added that Steam games, like CS and Dota 2, require more resources from a player’s PC than games like Valorant and League of Legends, which run on Riot Games’ independent app - Riot Client. “In India, it is not necessary that everyone has huge PCs that would run CS smoothly. Dota 2 was the same case,” he added.

Sid pointed out that CS: GO’s developer Valve has never shown significant support for the Indian gaming scene as a whole. Sid highlighted that the game has been existing in India for over a decade, but Valve has not shown much interest in the region despite doing a lot of things in the Asian region. In contrast, Sid noted that Valorant’s developer Riot Games, has been actively working to promote and support the Indian gaming community. As a result, Sid expressed his belief that while people may try playing Counter Strike 2 when it launches, it is unlikely to overtake the popularity of Valorant in India.
