Sean Gares Joins as Valorant Head Coach at 100 Thieves

Former Riot Games broadcast talent member Sean Gares is now the head coach for 100 Thieves’ Valorant roster. Gares is a former CS:GO player who has competed with teams like Cloud9, Echo Fox and Misfits. Since Valorant’s release, Gares was focused on creating content and eventually became a part of Riot’s broadcast talent. With Riot Games not signing him for the upcoming Masters One event, Gares quit the company and decided to join the competitive scene instead.

100 Thieves needs to rethink its strategy for the Champions Tour

100 Thieves is currently restructuring itself for the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT). The team was regarded as one of the best when it first started its journey in North American (NA) Valorant esports but the team’s performances quickly fell off. While the original trio of Spencer “Hiko” Martin, Peter “Asuna” Mazuryk, and Ethan “Ethan” Arnold are still on the team, the other two slots have seen a number of players join and leave throughout the 2021 season.

The team was recently knocked out of the VCT NA Challengers 2022 event and if it does not restructure itself in time, 100 Thieves might not make it to Stage Two’s Masters event either. Gares’ entry into the organization might be exactly what the team needs to revitalize itself in the Valorant circuit.

Gares was a part of multiple Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) events as a broadcast talent for Riot Games in 2021 but he did not make the cut for 2022’s VCT Masters One Reykjavik event, which made him consider switching careers. He is joining 100 Thieves along with Daniel “ddk” Kapadia and Michael “Mikes” Hockom who will also be joining the coaching team.

100 Thieves will not be competing in Stage One any further but the team has several months in hand to start preparing for Stage Two of the Valorant Champions Tour. Gares was a sought after coach/analyst in the CS:GO scene but he chose to shift to Valorant instead. Fans will finally get to see the former pro in a coaching role and his experience might be exactly what 100 Thieves needs to turn its fate around.
