NODWIN Gaming Acquires OML Entertainment’s Gaming and Adjacent IP Business for $9.9 Million

Indian esports company NODWIN Gaming, which is an independent subsidiary of Nazara Technologies Limited, has acquired gaming and adjacent IP businesses of OML Entertainment. NODWIN has paid $9.9 Million (INR 73,00,00,000) as part of an agreement between itself and OML.

Ajay Nair, MD of OML Entertainment, will join the NODWIN Gaming board as part of this transaction and will work with Akshat Rathee, MD of NODWIN Gaming and the NODWIN Gaming management team to help transition OML IPs into NODWIN Gaming.

NODWIN Gaming seeks to expand its reach for gaming and esports entertainment

NODWIN Gaming is doubling down on its efforts to broadcast to fan audiences for gaming and sports entertainment. The deal will enable NODWIN to enhance its existing esports IPs like Dreamhack and India Premiership.

Akshat Rathee, Managing Director, NODWIN Gaming said, “The addition of some of the largest IPs in India like NH7 weekender is going to accelerate the massification of esports and gaming entertainment across the spectrum of fans and brands.” Rathee seeks to leverage OML’s foundation to create more IPs for gaming and entertainment.

Ajay Nair, Managing Director, OML Entertainment, stated, “It makes a lot of sense to consolidate the strengths that OML Entertainment and NODWIN Gaming have in the live IPs and gaming spaces.” OML Entertainment will continue to consolidate its non-gaming creator-driver content and talent management businesses and will focus on its OTT offerings and branded content marketing services.

Opinion: How Will This Deal Affect Indian Esports

NODWIN Gaming is invested into gaming and esports while OML entertainment is known for its work with gaming and entertainment creators. OML also owns and executes IPs like NH7 Weekender, which can be potentially leveraged by NODWIN to bring esports into mainstream entertainment and reduce the stigma around it.

With mainstream creators like Tanmay Bhat, Samay Raina and Suhani Shah, who have partnered with OML, the acquisition can promote gaming and esports throughout India and beyond.

OML's expertise in event management could also help NODWIN Gaming host larger scale events that could cater to not just the hardcore esports fans, but also attract casual and non-gaming audiences which could in-turn would lead to the growth of the esports sector within the country.
