LCS Commissioner, Chris Greeley revealed that League of Legends Worlds 2022 will be hosted in North America.
The event will be taking place in four cities in the region but Riot Games is yet to officially confirm the locations and schedule of the event.
NA hosted Worlds previously in 2016 in San Francisco, Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles.

LCS Commissioner, Chris Greeley told content creator, Travis Gafford that Riot Games will be hosting 2022’s League of Legends World Championship in North America (NA). The announcement comes shortly after reports of Worlds 2021 being moved to Europe surfaced earlier this month. The event will take place across four cities across North America, but Riot Games has not yet confirmed which cities will be chosen for the upcoming event. The last time Worlds took place in North America, matches were conducted in San Francisco, Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. Riot Games has not given any explicit information about next year’s Worlds event but players and fans can expect an official announcement after the end of Worlds 2021.

COVID-19 has disrupted Riot Games’ esports calendar

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has restricted Riot Games’ ability to host events how it wants in 2021. The LCS Championship Finals’ LAN event, which was scheduled for this week, had to be moved due to local restrictions. Riot Games had planned to schedule the event at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, USA but had to call it off at the last moment. However, 2023’s LCS Championship finals have been scheduled at the same venue.

The League of Legends World Championship was originally scheduled to take place in North America in 2021, but Riot Games had to move the tournament to China last year. 2020’s Worlds event was hosted in China with a limited audience and Riot Games wanted to give fans in the country a live experience this year.

However, things did not go as planned as restrictions placed due to the pandemic has reportedly forced Riot Games to shift Worlds 2021 to Europe. It is currently unknown when the next League of Legends World Championship will be hosted in China.

Riot Games is yet to announce the tournament location and dates for Worlds 2021. With the ongoing pandemic forcing governments to have stringent health regulations and checks in place, fans would want Riot Games to host the event for its staff, players, and audience to be in a safe environment.

Worlds 2022 being hosted in North America will come as a pleasant surprise for NA fans as the region has not hosted a Worlds event since 2016.
