Content creator, Herschel ‘Dr Disrespect’ Beahm IV, also known as Doc, feels that aim assist is becoming a problem in modern first-person shooters and he wants developers of games like Apex Legends and Call of Duty: Warzone to fix the issues. With cross-play being one of the most popular features of modern FPS titles, developers are allowing players to play their favorite titles on any platform. However, mouse and keyboard (MnK) and controller can be a challenge. Dr Disrespect thinks that aim assist needs to be looked at. Nicholas ‘Nickmercs’ Kolcheff jokingly responded to the Doc saying that the Two-Time would get rolled either way.
Dr Disrespect on why aim assist needs balancing
Dr Disrespect tweeted out implying that there is an imbalance between input methods in games. He has been playing Warzone and Apex Legends on stream lately and aim assist has become an issue that he wanted to talk about. He said, “With cross-play becoming the norm for FPS games, aim assist is becoming a huge issue. We need some devs prioritizing balance between the two inputs. I’m gonna break something.”
Apex Legends introduced cross-play earlier this year and it sparked debates in the community ever since. NRG’s Tanner "Rogue" Trebb said that, “Biggest issue isn’t even console vs pc, it’s the pc controller vs pc mnk.” Many professional players in the Apex Legends community feel that aim assist for controller players on PC can be a huge problem.
Apex Legends developers sent the community into a frenzy after announcing tap strafing nerfs recently. After strong community feedback, Apex Legends developer, John ‘JayBiebs’ Larson, shared his thoughts on the state of aim assist in the game. He said, “When I see top-level controller players saying they would be alright with nerfing aim assist, I definitely take note. Players should not feel forced to use a specific input type, and if I see players converting out of what they think is necessity, I would 100% be concerned."
He revealed that aim assist nerfs might be on the radar after he discusses the issue with the dev team. Aim assist does help level the playing field against the advantages that MnK players have. But it may have reached a point where aim assist may be a little too overtuned. It remains to be seen if Apex and Warzone devs pay attention to the community feedback and if they think some balancing is required to maintain parity between the input methods.
