Shane "Rawkus" Flaherty will not join the Sentinels’ squad as the head coach and he has not been partaking in coaching responsibilities for the past two weeks. Flaherty revealed in a Twitter post that there are buyout complications preventing him from fulfilling his responsibilities as a coach in the North American team.
After FaZe was knocked out of the Valorant Champions Tour Last Chance Qualifier in 2021. Sentinels and FaZe agreed to a deal where Rawkus would join as the coach until 1st January 2022. But the deal did not go through as both teams were unable to reach an agreement.
Flaherty will continue his career as a pro Valorant player
While Flaherty is still a part of FaZe, he will not be continuing his role as a pro player in the organization. He is currently a free agent in North America and is currently exploring options with Challengers One coming to a close.
FaZe failed to reach an agreement involving Flaherty’s role as a coach in Sentinels some time ago but he did not receive approval to make an announcement until Senitnels’ matchup against Optic this weekend. He revealed in his Twitter statement, “Contractually I have to change all my things back to FaZe but no intentions from either side to be apart of the team again. I've stated publicly that I only ever considered coaching because of the people who were involved and the environment that I was joining made it a perfect fit for me.”
Flaherty’s short-lived coaching gig at Sentinels comes to a close with last year’s Valorant world championship being the only event that he worked as a coach in. While Sentinels was dominant in the first two stages of the Valorant Champions Tour, it could not keep up its momentum at during Stage 3 and the world championships.
Flaherty is a former Overwatch pro who won the Overwatch World Cup 2019 with the United States team. He was an active player in the Houston Outlaws team in the Overwatch League. He transitioned to Valorant in 2020 and was part of FaZe Clan until Sentinels signed him.
During his time in FaZe’s Valorant team, he helped the roster secure a win at the VCT Stage 1 Challengers 3 event along with a second-place finish at Stage 1 Masters. But FaZe Clan was unable to win the North America Last Chance Qualifier, which kept them out of the world championship.
