Bihar State Sports Authority (BSSA) has announced the first-ever Bihar State Esports Open Championship.
This state-wide esports tournament is scheduled to take place for three weeks from 7th to 28th December.
The announcement states that the grand final will take place on LAN at the Patliputra Sports Complex in Kankarbagh, Patna, Bihar.

Esports is growing in India at a rapid pace and government sporting bodies have started to show interest by slowly getting involved in the scene. This tilt towards competitive gaming was largely in part due to esports being integrated with mainstream sports disciplines under the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs in December 2022.

Almost a year later on 5th December 2023, Bihar State Sports Authority which is abbreviated as BSSA has announced the first-ever Bihar State Esports Open Championship which is scheduled to take place from 7th to 28th December.

Bihar State Esports Open Championship announced by BSSA

Bihar State Esports Open Championship is going to be a state-wide competitive tournament that will take place for three weeks with the grand finals set to take place on LAN at the Patliputra Sports Complex located in Kankarbagh, Patna.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from 7th to 28th December and here are all the important dates along with the proper schedule.

  • Registration Phase: 7th to 14th December

  • Online Phase: 16th to 22nd December

  • Grand Finals: 28th December

This is a first-of-a-kind esports tournament that is being organized by BSSA, which is the sports governing body for the state of Bihar. It does not have any prior experience in the field of competitive gaming and hosting an event at such a large scale will surely be a challenge, but the Indian gaming community is pleased with the initiative.

The news was shared by the official social media pages of BSSA across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

While the initial details about the tournament have been announced publicly, in reality not a lot of information has been provided, prompting gamers and aspiring athletes to come forward with their doubts.

Only surface-level information has been provided about the general schedule of the tournament. However, details like how or where can the players register have not been revealed till now with the process set to start tomorrow 7th December.

Players are eagerly waiting for more information regarding the Bihar State Esports Open Championship.

This is a great initiative taken by the sports authority of Bihar and follows in the footsteps of similar initiatives done by other government bodies from across the country in the recent past.

  • Meghalaya Tourism partnering with Mutation Esports to host a gaming festival called Odyssey 2023, featuring a COD Mobile tournament with international teams.

  • The Uttar Pradesh Government providing a major push to esports as part of its new sports policy while also signing an MoU with Garena to host international tournaments.

  • Madhya Pradesh government has established an esports academy and also organized a State Junior Esports Championship featuring BGMI as the competing title.
