Bandai Namco, the studio behind Tekken, Pac-man and the Soulsborne series, is backing Indian game publisher SuperGaming. The investment is being made as part of the Japanese publisher’s “Bandai Namco Entertainment 021 Fund” which was set up in April 2022. The funding will likely be used for SuperGaming’s upcoming project “Indus” or future titles.
The investment is estimated to be between $75,000 to $3.75 Million USD
According to a report by Moneycontrol, the investment is between 10 million and 500 million yen ($75,000 to $3.75 Million USD). Bandai Namco told the financial news outlet, “Through this investment, we will seek to expand our business by combining our expertise in IPs with a deeper understanding of the Asian market, which is expected to grow further in the future.”
SuperGaming is working on ‘Indus’ which is a battle royale game that puts you in the shoes of a ‘MythWalker’. It is set to be India’s first battle royale title that is being built from the ground up in the country. The game will focus on the Indus Valley civilization and is focusing on “Indo-futurism” which focuses on a futuristic portrayal of ancient Indian culture.
Indus Game Director Jwalant Gangwar revealed at Bengaluru Comic Con earlier this year, “Riot Games pushing Valorant heavily and Krafton running New State, these are industry giants that have esports down to a science. Getting a foothold in the space and standing out from the competition will be a major challenge.”
If you are interested in the game, you can check out our pre-registration guide for Indus. There is no known release date but players who pre-register will receive special bonuses and be notified as soon as the game releases for their devices.
The game will also be released on PC and consoles but pre-registration is not open for the two platforms yet. With Indian gamers showing massive interest in battle royale titles throughout the years, the game could pose a challenge to bigger mobile esports titles in the country.
