The highly anticipated Axie Infinity: Origin update may be delayed due to the recent issue regarding its Ronin Network breach. The recent crypto heist cost Ronin to lose about $600 million USD worth of cryptocurrency in Etherium and United States Dollar Coin (USDC). While the investigation is ongoing, one of the Discord moderators of Axie Infinity revealed that the Axie Origin update may be delayed until further notice. The update was expected to arrive at the end of March, featuring a ton of new content for players to explore. For now, Axie Infinity players will not be able to withdraw or deposit funds to the Ronin Network.
Axie Origin Update may be delayed indefinitely
An issue recently transpired in the Axie Infinity community when a hacker managed to steal a large sum of cryptocurrency due to a system exploit. The exploit was the result of last year’s activity where the Ronin developers gave special privileges to Sky Mavis, the developer behind the popular NFT game, so it could simply sign transactions on its behalf, due to the massive traffic of transactions caused by new players investing in Axie Infinity. When the system was back to its usual traffic, this special privilege was not revoked, allowing hackers to exploit it.
This issue resulted in the most-awaited major update for Axie Infinity to be postponed until the issue has been resolved, according to the Discord moderator, Pixie.
Sky Mavis is yet to make an official announcement regarding the delay of the Axie Origin update. Fans will have to keep their eyes peeled for more updates in the future.
What to expect in the upcoming Axie Infinity: Origin update
The developers gave players a sneak peek at some of the content arriving in the major update. The most recent announcement is the new Origin Eye Cards. This will be the first time that the Eye part of an Axie will officially have its own set of cards.
Other parts will also have their own Origin cards with their own effects.
While there is still no official release date announced for the Axie Origin update, the developers stated that they are working on resolving the issue as soon as possible. Sky Mavis is also working with government agencies to track down the hackers and bring them to justice.
