Highlights
Apex Legends is hosting a collaboration event with Final Fantasy, and the cost to entry if you want everything is over $300 USD.
Apex Legends' heirloom events typically cost $180 USD and players have to shell out significantly more for the upcoming event.

Apex Legends and FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH have come together to create a unique crossover event. This event, running from 9th January to 30th January integrates elements from the iconic FINAL FANTASY VII universe into the world of Apex Legends. The event introduces 36 new items, including a special Death Box and the Mythic Buster Sword R5 Melee cosmetic. This unique item is a versatile addition, usable by any Legend across various game modes unlike the other heirlooms which are legend-specific.

The Mythic Buster Sword R5 in Apex Legends Can Cost Up to $327 USD

Players have the opportunity to acquire the Mythic Buster Sword R5 in every Event pack they open during this period. Players will get a few packs for free so there's a chance that you get the item at no cost, but if you want every item in the event and a guaranteed shot at getting the heirloom as well as a limited-time Death Box cosmetic, prepare to shell out over $300 USD.

Players can collect the 36 crossover items through dedicated Apex Legends & FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH Event packs. These packs include unique skins, sticker sets, and other collectibles. A Four-Pack purchase option guarantees a Legendary or Iconic item, streamlining the collection process for players.

Coming to the gameplay side of things, a notable feature of the event is the BR Takeover, which infuses FINAL FANTASY VII elements into Apex Legends. Players can find and wield the Buster Sword R2R5, a weapon with unique gameplay abilities. This includes light and heavy attacks, a blocking function to reduce damage, a dash ability for quick movement, and a powerful Limit Break that charges as players engage in combat.

The event also introduces Materia Hop-Ups, special items that enhance weapon capabilities with various effects and bonuses. These Hop-Ups are compatible with select weapons and can be found across the game map and in event-limited Cactuar Ticks.

How to (Potentially) Get The Buster Sword For Free

During the event, players can earn Gil, a special event currency, by participating in the event mode and accomplishing various challenges. This currency can be used in the Rewards Shop, which is a temporary feature for this event.

The Rewards Shop will update its inventory on a weekly basis, offering a selection of event-limited items, exclusive badges, and other unique collectibles. This provides players with an opportunity to acquire different items each week.

Players should also be on the lookout for event packs and prioritise them first. 6 Iconic Legend skins will be available via the store as well in case you want to grab them directly.
