Sentinels has had some of the biggest highlights in Valorant esports of 2021 already. The team has secured wins at Valorant Champions Tour Qualifiers, Challengers events, and even the recently-concluded VCT Masters at Iceland. And all of it was made possible after the arrival of Tyson ‘TenZ’ Ngo, who has played an extremely important part in the team as a stand-in player from Cloud9 who was recently signed as a permanent addition to Sentinels. The team’s captain Shahzeb ‘ShahZaM’ Khan revealed that he did not know TenZ’s buyout had gone through until the very last moment and shared his new teammate’s crazy transfer story.
ShahZaM Talks About How TenZ Became a Part of Sentinels
It has been a rollercoaster year for TenZ and Sentinels with the player stepping down from competitive Valorant and Sentinels losing star player Sinatraa to a suspension. After Sinatraa was suspended, TenZ stepped back into competitive Valorant and joined Sentinels as a stand-in player. It was unknown how long the player would be in Sentinels but the instant impact he had made fans realize that TenZ should be a permanent part of the team.
Regarded as the best Valorant player by many, TenZ had a successful run at VCT Masters last month with Sentinels being crowned champions. The team will be heading to the VCT grand finals later this year and have a shot at becoming the first-ever Valorant world champions.
In an interview with Curveball’s James ‘BanKs’ Banks, Sentinels IGL ShahZaM talked about what it means to have a player like TenZ be in the team and how he is a perfect fit in the current roster. He revealed that the team told the players it is trying to “make it happen” and no one knew if TenZ’s transfer went through. The players did not know if the player would be a part of Sentinels until after they won the VCT Masters event in Iceland.
ShahZaM revealed that after the win at the event, an official announcement was made to the players revealing the transfer was completed. He regards TenZ as the best player in the world and he is happy that Sentinels found value in the player to retain him as a permanent player in the roster following the departure of Sinatraa.
He revealed that TenZ is “mechanically well rounded. His mechanical skill is probably the best in the world.” He added that the player has “surprisingly good comms” and is happy with how Tyson gels with the team.
