- Valorant experiences 14 million monthly players but there are some other FPS titles that edge it out currently.
- Riot Games shared its monthly player count just once till date at the first-year anniversary earlier this month.
- First Strike and Ignition Series were very popular and the VCT events are driving esports viewership and player interest up.
Valorant’s player count peaked at 3 million players per day during the two-month beta which is impressive but the playerbase has dipped over time. Player numbers decline in all games over time but regular content updates and events maintain a healthy average for popular titles. Valorant’s player count data was shared by Riot Games again earlier this month and the studio says that there are over 14 million monthly players currently. This is the first time that Riot has shared the official monthly Valorant player count. But how does it fare against Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO)? Let’s find out.
Valorant’s Current Player Count in 2021
Riot Games stated that Valorant had nearly 3 million players playing the game, per day during the two-month beta. But concurrent daily player figures have never been shared by the studio since release.
However, Riot Games just revealed the game's player count and it claims that there are over 14 million players logging in every month. The number was revealed on June 2nd, 2021 on the first anniversary of the game. The total number of registered players is unknown at the moment but Riot Games may share numbers once it achieves certain milestones.
Valorant Versus CS:GO – How Do They Compare Against Each Other
According to the official CS:GO blog, there are over 26.9 million registered players who logged in last month. The playercount of Valorant is nearly half of that of CS:GO’s. However, Riot Games’ shooter is just a year old and if the studio shapes the game for success, it can potentially beat out CS:GO in the long run.
- CS:GO: 26.9 Million unique monthly players (May 2021)
- Valorant: 14 Million average monthly players (May 2021)
Other popular FPS titles do not reveal their monthly player counts but daily player counts are visible on Steam. Fortnite had over 80 million monthly active players last year but it is not a fair comparison as the game is available on all major consoles, mobile platforms, and PC. Overwatch revealed that it has over 10 million monthly players as of November 2020, which is less than both CS:GO and Valorant but the PC population is likely to be even lower as the game is also available on multiple platforms.
Valorant’s playerbase is likely to grow with an increase in interest in the game throughout its esports events. The Valorant Champions Tour has contributed to the game’s popularity with high viewership numbers throughout the event. The grand finals of the VCT 2021 event is set to take place at the end of this year and more players are likely to try out the game at the time.
