  • The Apex Legends Global Series Championship 2021 prize pool is set at $2.5 million thanks to community efforts.
  • The original prize pool of $1 million had another $1.5 million added through a community event hosted by Respawn and EA.
  • The community event featured exclusive skins which helped contribute more money to the existing prize pool.

The Apex Legends Global Series Championship 2021 prize pool has hit the $2.5 Million USD mark thanks to a crowdfunding event that saw fans raise the prize pool through purchases in the in-game store. Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment made an official announcement for the prize pool. The initial prize pool was set at $1 Million and another $1.5 Million was added via the crowdfunding event. The current prize pool is set at $2,580,590, which makes it the highest prize pool for competitive Apex Legends. The prize pool will be distributed to the top finishers at the ALGS grand finals which will take place later this month.

Apex Legends Achieves Biggest Competitive Prize Pool Yet

The massive prize pool was made possible through the community event created by EA and Respawn Entertainment. An Animal Kingdom bundle was released in the game which contained a set of skins and other cosmetics as well as individual cosmetics from the bundle being sold separately. Each bundle sale added $20 to the prize pool while the individual skins added $5 each. Enough cosmetics were purchased during the event to raise the prize pool by $1.5 Million. The community’s efforts more than doubled prize pool for the upcoming esports event and it is the largest prize pool for any ALGS tournament to date.

Apex Legends is getting a lot of attention with the game gaining an increase of over 30% concurrent players in May 2021 thanks to the launch of Season 9: Legacy as well as the new Arenas mode. The esports scene is also getting more popular with the ALGS Winter Circuit Playoffs clocking over 100,000 concurrent viewers.

Apex Legends vs Other Esports Titles

Apex Legends’ prize pool is impressive but other popular esports titles have it beat with Fortnite and PUBG offering significantly better prize pools for its flagship events. Here is a look at some of the biggest esports events in comparison to Apex Legends.

Battle Royales:

  • Fortnite (Fortnite World Cup 2021): $20 Million
  • PUBG PC (PUBG Global Invitational.S): $7 Million
  • Apex Legends (ALGS): $2.5 Million
  • Call of Duty: Warzone (World Series of Warzone): $1.2 Million
  • Free Fire (FFWS 2021 Singapore): $2.01 Million

Other Shooters:

  • Overwatch (Overwatch League 2021): $4.25 Million
  • Rainbow 6: Siege (Six Invitational 2021): $3 Million
  • CS:GO (PGL Major Stockholm 2021): $2 Million

Other Esports:

  • Dota 2 (The International 2021): $40.01 Million
  • League of Legends (LoL 2020 World Championship): $2.34 Million

Valorant Champions Tour 2021 Playoffs is also likely to feature a bigger prize pool than Apex Legends with each of its Masters events featuring $600,000 each and the grand finals set to feature teams from all major regions. While Apex Legends’ numbers are not as big as other esports titles, it is growing as an esport and we can expect bigger prize pools in the future.
