Apex Legends’ split screen is a feature that many players would love to have, especially with the game being made to be played exclusively with teammates. Respawn Entertainment has made it clear that the game will not have a solos mode. But if the game offers only duos and trios, does Apex Legends have split screen? Unfortunately, Apex Legends does not have split screen and it is unlikely that Respawn Entertainment will add it in the future either. Here is a look at the advantages of split screen in the game and why the game does not have it so far.
Apex Legends does not have split screen mode currently and developers have not made any announcements on the game receiving a co-op split screen mode either. While the feature would be a nice addition, it simply does not exist currently.
Unlike Fortnite and PUBG which have solos modes, Apex Legends is a squad-only game. It has one of the best ping systems across all games that allows you to communicate with your team without needing voice chat. The devs have made it clear that a solos mode is not going to come ever to the game except as a limited-time event.
In one of their blogs during the Old Ways event, Respawn developers revealed “When we introduced Solos as a limited-time mode last year we saw it actually negatively impacted the game, especially when it came to new player retention. We’ve also purposely designed Legends and their abilities to compliment team-play and squad composition, but when played Solo some Legend abilities become useless.”
It makes perfect sense to be able to play with your friend on the same console or PC, but Respawn Entertainment does not want to add a solos mode because of the abovementioned reasons. The addition of a split screen mode in Apex Legends would allow friends to team up and play together.
Apex Legends is quite intensive and it is likely that rendering the game world twice on the same system would lead to dropped frames. Black Ops 4’s Blackout mode is the only battle royale-style game that allows players to play in split-screen and it is almost unplayable unless you have a high-end PC. The performance hit is not worth it considering it is a fast-paced FPS game with a large map that needs to be rendered.
