Is Valorant on Console? Leaks and Other Details

Cover-Credits:

  • Valorant on console might still be a reality with Riot talking about a console release last year but we have not received official information in months.
  • In June 2020, Riot Games Executive Producer Anna Donlon revealed that the team is working on a console release.
  • She revealed that the console version has to feel good for the game to release on consoles or other platforms.

"Is Valorant on console?" is a question that gets asked often and unfortunately, there is no official word on a release date yet. With the new generation of Xbox and PlayStations available right now, it would make perfect sense for Valorant on console to be announced but we are still waiting on any official news. Last year, Riot Games’ executive producer Anna Donlon talked about how Riot is prototyping Valorant on console in an interview with GameSpot. Since then, there has been no official update on a multi-platform launch. The studio has not officially canned the project so fans are not wrong to keep their hopes up for Valorant on Xbox or PS5 in 2021.

Will Valorant Release on Console

Riot Games Executive Producer Anna Donlon talked about how the team wants to bring Valorant on console and that Riot Games is “definitely prototyping” a port right now. However, she also admits that there are some issues with porting it to the consoles. "There's a way to play this game and there's a way to experience this game that we're not entirely sure translates completely to console play. If we feel like we can deliver this experience on those platforms, we absolutely will. But we really want Valorant to stand for a certain type of gameplay and a certain type of experience.”

In March 2021, ValorLeaks revealed that “Valorant Mobile is still in development & Valorant for Consoles is still unknown”. While we have now new information on the console release dates, Riot has not scrapped the project so it might still be in the works. The studio needs to find the right balance across input options on PC and console and the fact that the studio seriously considered developing a console version of the game, there is no reason to stop hoping for Valorant on consoles including PS5, Xbox, and Switch.

A mobile version is more likely to happen with Riot Games taking interest in the mobile gaming segment with the release of Wild Rift and Legends of Runeterra last year. Valorant has been a massive success as a competitive game and its esports scene is booming. A console release to push the game on the new Series S/X and PS5 consoles would give the player base a massive boost but with no official word from Riot in months, all fans can do is wait.
