Valorant on PS5 May Still Be In The Works According to Reports

  • Valorant on PS5 might still be a reality with Riot talking about a console release but they have gone silent for the past six months.
  • In June 2020, a Riot Games Executive Producer Anna Donlon revealed that the team is working on a console release.
  • She revealed that if the console version does not feel good, Riot will not release Valorant on PS5 or Xbox.

Valorant on PS5 and other current-gen consoles would be great news for fans but as things stand, but Riot might take a while until they release their FPS title for other platforms. With a brand-new generation of gaming consoles available right now, it would make perfect sense for a console version of Valorant to be announced this year. In 2020, Riot Games’ executive producer Anna Donlon talked to GameSpot about how they are currently prototyping a console version of Valorant but there is no guarantee that it will see the light of day. Since then, there has been no word of Valorant on PS5 despite the recent console launches. The studio has not officially canned the project so it might be worth keeping your hopes up for an announcement for Valorant on PS5 in the near future.

Valorant on PS5 Release Date

While Valorant on PS5 and other consoles would be great, it might not feel the same because of how difficult it is to control recoil on controllers. To compensate for recoil, aim assist is added to consoles and it can completely change how the game feels. PC players have access to fine control over their mouse while controller players do not get the same feeling of precision despite having aim assist. It can be difficult to balance and Riot stressed that they want to stick the landing with Valorant’s release on consoles so players should not expect a release date anytime soon.

Will Riot Games Release Valorant on PS5?

In an interview with GameSpot, Riot Games Executive Producer Anna Donlon talked about how the team wants to bring the FPS to consoles and that Riot Games is “definitely prototyping” a port right now. “It’s not a no, for sure.” She later added if the team were to do it, the port would be delayed.

However, she also admits that there are some issues with porting it to the consoles. "There's a way to play this game and there's a way to experience this game that we're not entirely sure translates completely to console play. If we feel like we can deliver this experience on those platforms, we absolutely will. But we really want Valorant to stand for a certain type of gameplay and a certain type of experience."

While we have no new information on release dates for Valorant on PS5 or Xbox Series X/S, Riot has not scrapped the project so it might still be in the works. They need to find the right balance across input options on PC and console and the fact that the studio seriously considered developing a console version of the game, fans can hope to see a console version released sometime in the future.
