  • Riot Games implemented a Valorant region lock despite fans asking for server transfers for months since release.
  • Naoise Creaven, Senior Producer for Valorant confirmed that the feature is coming to the game mid-2021.
  • Currently, the only workaround is to use a VPN and create multiple accounts for different regions.

One of the biggest pet peeves of players within the Valorant community is that we cannot queue up with friends from other regions with a simple server select option. In most other popular FPS titles like Apex Legends of Overwatch, you can choose the server you want to play on, and all of your progress is retained, allowing you to head into any region at a moment’s notice. This is not the case with Valorant with Riot Games automatically assigning and restricting you to a specific region. If you try to bypass Valorant's Region Lock, you also lose your skins and agent unlock progress on your account when swapping regions.

How to Remove Valorant’s Region Lock

Currently, the only way to play in a different region is to make a separate account altogether. You can request a permanent server transfer from Riot’s support staff, but it is inconvenient compared to having different accounts for different regions.

If you created a Valorant account in the Philippines, you would be assigned the SEA server. A server change will mean that you lose all progress. The workaround uses a VPN and connects to your desired region to bypass the Valorant region lock. Once your VPN is set up, you can create a new Riot account, and you should be good to go. This might not be convenient, but it is the only option we have at the moment. However, there may be good news on the horizon with Riot Games announcing region locks' removal sometime in 2021.

When Are Server Transfers Coming to Valorant?

Riot revealed that server transfers were coming to Valorant in November 2020, which should help with the Valorant region lock problem. We have received multiple patches since then, but the feature is still pending. There is currently no word on when the feature will be added to the game, but all we know that you will be able to move across servers without losing your unlocked agents, cosmetics, and account statistics. Riot did not confirm if your leaderboard data will be transferred mid-season or not.

In the Q&A blog that Riot posted talking about the feature, they revealed, “This is something we definitely know is important, and it’s on our list behind a couple of other critical priorities for VALORANT. We'd like it to be sooner, but it's looking like this option will be available towards the middle of 2021.” We might have to wait at least a few months until the feature is implemented in the game, according to Naoise Creaven, Senior Producer for Valorant.
