SEA Fire Championship 2020 Day 5 Recap: SMG And NongWaen Qualify

After securing wins in their first set of matches yesterday, Team SMG and NongWaen secured their spots in the knockout stages today. Both teams will be heading to the quarterfinals of the SEA Fire Championship 2020 Valorant tournament. Team nxl and Meloner will be unable to qualify for the knockout stages after suffering two defeats each. 

SEA Fire Championship 2020 Day 5 Results

Team SMG vs nxl (2-1)

Team SMG continued their winning streak with a 2-1 win against nxl. The team has now secured a +40 advantage and are sitting at the top of the leaderboard. It was nxl’s first match this tournament after they forfeited their first game against NongWaen yesterday. They started off with a win against SMG on Haven before succumbing to their aggressive strats on Bind and Ascent. The team of ZesBeeW, falfalfal, Kama, LEXY, Divine and Aeozora joined SMG’s Valorant roster in July and have proven themselves to be among the best teams in SEA. 

Team NongWaen vs Meloner (2-0) 

Team NongWaen secured three points yesterday after Team nxl forfeited the match. The Thai team played against Meloner and put on a dominant performance with a 13-6 win on Bind and a 13-8 win on Ascent. NongWaen have cemented their spot in the quarterfinals next month. The team of S1XKY, THITIKORN, Taee, Lion and QueEn will be facing off against some of the best Valorant teams in SEA including First Strike winners Bren Esports in the knockout stages. 

The upper bracket quarterfinals will begin on January 7th. Group A’s matches have concluded with Bren Esports and X10 securing spots in the next round. Group B’s NongWaen and Team SMG will be heading to the quarterfinals after securing wins today. The quarterfinals will have two brackets for qualification which will conclude on January 11th.

The SEA Fire Championship 2020 is a Valorant tournament hosted by eFire League in partnership with Zack Solutions as the main sponsor. The Group Stage is ongoing and will last until December 28th, after which we will see two teams from each group of four qualify. All matches in the group stage are BO3, and the qualifying teams will head to the playoffs which take place between January 7th and 14th next year. The SEA Fire Championship 2020 Grand Finals will be a BO5 match with a one-map advantage being given to the upper bracket team.
