PUBG announced its upcoming Global Invitational.S event which will start on February 5, 2021. The organisers will be moving back to a LAN-only event after the global pandemic forced almost all major esports events to move to an online-only format. While the online-only format was very successful, players will love to return to an in-person competition format. The eight-week-long esports festival will feature a prize pool of over $3.5 million.

The official event announcement revealed that the S in Invitational.S stands for Survival and it is what makes Battle Royale what it is. The PUBG esports team revealed that the S also “represents the new Series format of PGI. It’s Supremacy, it’s Showmanship, it’s a global Showdown, and perhaps most importantly, it’s Safety”. The team will take precautionary steps to ensure everyone at the PGI.S stays safe. The organisers will set up bubbles for players to compete in while maintaining social distancing. All players and staff will have to undergo a mandatory two-week quarantine before the event.

Unlike previous global invitationals, the team wants to shake things up this year. There will be two parts in the event – Weekly Survival and Weekly Finals. In week 1, competitors will participate in a gauntlet style format in ‘Rank Decision’ matches. The top 16 teams from all the Rank Decision rounds will participate in the Weekly Survival from Week 2.

There will be 16 Weekly Survival matches every week. Winners of each match will advance to the Weekly Finals and also take home some of the prize money. The Weekly Finals will take place over ten matches, and they will offer increased prize money. The team that earns the most prize money will be declared the winner.

Here is the regional breakdown and the number of teams participating:

  • North America: 4 Teams
  • Latin America: 2 Teams
  • Europe: 7 Teams
  • Southeast Asia: 5 Teams
  • South Korea: 4 Teams
  • China: 6 Teams
