Official Statement from YouTube and PewDiePie

One of the world’s most popular content creators, Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg has just signed an exclusive deal with YouTube, to stream on their platform.

In an official statement in the press release, PewDiePie expressed why he chose to stick with the YouTube platform:

“YouTube has been my home for over a decade now and live streaming on the platform feels like a natural fit as I continue to look for new ways to create content and interact with fans worldwide. Live streaming is something I'm focusing a lot on in 2020 and beyond, so to be able to partner with YouTube and be at the forefront of new product features is special and exciting for the future.”

The contract comes amid the long battle among top esports platforms (including YouTube, Twitch, Mixer and Facebook Live) to gain exclusivity with the biggest gaming influencers.

Previously, PewDiePie also used to stream on Twitch where he has over 1 million followers. In 2019, he also signed an exclusive streaming deal with DLIve, a decentralized livestreaming platform built using blockchains. At that time, he touted this platform as a service that “puts creators first”.

Signing PewDiePie to an exclusive deal on YouTube might very well be one of YouTube’s biggest wins in recent times. Recently, the Google-owned platform has been able to sign exclusive deals with some of the biggest streamers in the world including Jack "CouRage" Dunlop, Andre “Typical Gamer” Rebelo, Lannan “lazarbeam” Eacott and Rachel “Valkyrae” Hofstetter.
