  • Steam creates a new record with more than 24.5 Million concurrent users on its platform.

  • CS:GO, Dota 2, and PUBG player numbers are also at an all-time high.

With social distancing and self-isolation being the primary norm being followed globally during the currently ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Steam continues to show unprecedented growth as it once again broke the record for concurrent users on its platform with a peak of more than 24.5 million users yesterday.

After crossing the 24 million mark on 3rd April at around 9:00 PM, the platform held the number for a few hours before dropping down, but yesterday another spike was observed around the same time and this time Steam went on to cross the 24.5 million mark as well.

An industry insider Daniel Ahmad points out the reason behind Steam’s growth, his findings clearly show that with the spread of the coronavirus as more countries went into lockdown, Steam’s userbase grew. He also shone a light on other platforms like PSN (PlayStation Network) and XBL (Xbox Live) stating that Steam is only one platform out of the many that are performing well.

Across the board, the top-performing games for the platform have been the veteran first-person shooter CS:GO which in itself has been undergoing quite a fantastic growth in the last few months to set a few records, followed by the popular MOBA title Dota 2 which has also been enjoying a record-breaking surge in its userbase, along with other notable games like Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, GTA V, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, PUBG, and a few others.
