Overwatch and Diablo TV Series on the Works. Coming Soon on Netflix?

Blizzard’s FPS esports title Overwatch and RPG title Diablo are getting animated series based on the games and their characters, according to the LinkedIn profile of Nick van Dyk, President of the film and TV division of Activision Blizzard.

According to the leak, the Diablo show will be an R-Rated anime-style show (like Castlevania) for Netflix.

Executive producer of Diablo, a TV adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment’s IP, rendered in anime style. The show is currently in pre-production for distribution worldwide through Netflix.

There is also is a small note about an animated Overwatch series. While Netflix wasn't explicitly mentioned for this series, we can take an educated guess that the streaming service is involved, given its association with Diablo’s animated series.

With my creative partner, developed and sold an animated series based Blizzard's Overwatch franchise.

Regardless of dwindling game quality, *cough* Warcraft 3: Reforged *cough*, Blizzard has always been known for their sick animations and cinematics in all their titles.

They’ve managed to develop immersive lore and backstories for many of their characters in Overwatch, Warcraft, etc through their animated shorts. Some of which are still appreciated for their top-notch production quality.

So Blizzard fans are understandably very excited with these recent developments.

Earlier last year, Riot Games also announced that it is making a series based on its League of Legends characters - Arcane: Animated Series.

Valve hasn’t really explored this market yet. Hopefully, considering industry trends, the company might be pressured into making animated series of their own with their immense portfolio of Dota 2 heroes.

Considering the quality of the short they produced to announce Snapfire, it sure would be amazing.

Valve? Are you listening?
