Latest reports suggest that Tencent is considering a mobile version for League of Legends, one of the most popular PC games in the world. League of Legends or LoL is one of the biggest titles on the PC and enjoys massive popularity among gamers both in the west and in China. It also is one of the biggest esports with some of the highest viewership for tournaments.

Tencent bought out Riot Games, the publisher behind LoL in 2015 and it seems as if they are planning to release a mobile version of the game. However, they already have a mobile title in the MOBA category which is called Arena of Valor or Honour of Kings if you are in China. But surprisingly, on the mobile, the title which is closest to LoL is Mobile Legends Bang Bang or MLBB, but it is owned by Moonton.

Moonton's MLBB comes close to replicating the LoL experience for mobile

It's fair to say that both AOV and Honor of Kings aren’t as popular as MLBB and Tencent might be looking to bridge this gap by tapping into the popularity of one of their existing titles. Mobile Gaming has especially taken off in Asia with titles such as PUBGM and MLBB enjoying massive popularity. Tencent already have a foothold in the region with PUBGM but will they be able to dominate the MOBA genre as well?

A lot of questions are yet to be answered since much of this is speculation? How will Riot respond to Tencent turning their game into a mobile version? Will the League’s mobile version also have an esports ecosystem like LoL? When will the game be released?
