Overwatch 2 Season 4 is changing how Competitive will work moving forward. The ranked system has been heavily criticized by fans due to the unnecessary changes that were made to the game. Blizzard is trying to remedy some of the issues with new changes to its ranked mode and here is a rundown of all the changes that are coming to the game when Overwatch 2 Season 4 drops.
Players Will No Longer Experience Rank Decay
Overwatch 2 is removing rank decay with the release of the new season. When Season 4 launches on 11th April, players may notice that they are in a completely different rank. This is because Blizzard Entertainment is going to reverse the effects of rank decay for players and place them closer to their “real” skill level. So if you have not played in a couple of seasons and were in a high rank, you may find yourself in the same rank.
Another important change coming to the game is a post-game screen that shows you the average rank of your team and the enemy team. In Overwatch (2016), players were able to view the average Skill Rating (SR) as well as the individual ranks of each player. But Overwatch 2 tries to keep most of its player data hidden and it has led to a lot of frustration among players who enjoy ranked mode.
According to a dev post when the game’s matchmaking system tries to make a match, it looks for players as close to each other's MMR (Matchmaking Rating) as possible. As it continues to search, it will expand to players with larger differences in skill. There are reports on social media platforms and the official forums complaining about how some players are matched unfairly.
Many feel that the game tries to prioritize lower queue times over better matchmaking, and it is something Blizzard addressed last month but the system still needs changes according to some players.
