While Rocket League has numerous game modes in both Unranked and Competitive play, one fun mode that stands out from the rest is Knockouts, which eliminates the need for a ball and turns the game into a team-based arena mode where you must eliminate opponents by pushing them off a platform. Players have 3 main maneuvers at hand; attack, block, and grab. While attacking and blocking is pretty straightforward, grabbing your opponents can be quite difficult to perform. Without further ado, here’s how you can effectively use the grab function in Rocket League.
Grabbing your Opponents in Rocket League Knockouts
In Rocket League’s Knockouts mode, grabbing, blocking, and attacking your opponent are all performed by using the dodge button. In order to successfully combat your enemies and be the last one standing, you need to outmaneuver them by effectively using your car’s movement.
While attacking requires you to ram into them at maximum force, blocking needs you to accurately predict their movement and time your counter-attack by pressing the dodge key. However, grabbing requires you to jump in the air, aim for the right angle, and hold onto your opponent until you throw them out of the arena. Here’s how you can do it on your specific system.
On PC
Grabbing on PC requires you to hold Left Shift while dodging or flipping at an opponent. Your car will latch on to your opponent and dodging and releasing the key will launch them into the air.
On Xbox
Performing the same maneuver on Xbox consoles requires you to hold your left trigger LT while flipping at an opponent. You can throw them in the air by flipping again and releasing LT.
On PlayStation
Similar to Xbox, grabbing on PlayStation also requires you to hold onto your left trigger L2 while dodging an oncoming opponent. You will latch onto them while doing so and dodging again while releasing L2 will make you launch them in the air.
Although it sounds pretty simple to perform, properly executing it means you have a clear understanding of the game’s movement mechanics. Before grabbing an enemy, make sure you are aligned at the right angle which will ensure you throw them out of the arena when you release the key. If you do not use the dodge function, you can also use the jump button to perform the same maneuver.
