Highlights
Genopets is a blockchain based game that is implementing a new concept called "move-to-earn".
It draws inspiration from popular games like Pokemon, Tamagotchi and Animal Crossing.
In the Genoverse, two native tokens are $KI and $GENE. These are used for trading and governance.

Genopets is a free-to-play blockchain-based game built on the Solana network. Genopets draw inspiration from popular games like Tamagotchi, Animal Crossing, and Pokemon. The game is built around Genopets which are digital pets (which are also NFTs) that continuously evolve through daily activities.

All players can mint one infant Genopet for free. As you battle in the Genoverse against other players and keep on upgrading your Genopet, its value continues to grow. Just like Pokemons, your Genopets can also evolve. In Genoverse, evolution takes place through XP which depends upon your physical movement.

The game also includes a “move-to-play” feature -that converts physical movement from the user into in-game experience (XP). This XP can be used to enhance/evolve your pets and then sell them in an NFT marketplace, essentially making the game a “move-to-earn” title that converts daily physical activity into crypto.

What can you do in Genopets?

Genopets is a free-to-play blockchain game but there are elements that users can pay for to progress faster. Habitats are one such feature that advances your gameplay but requires paying for. Habitats are NFTs where your Genopets can stay and evolve. Once you purchase a Habitat, you gain the ability to earn Gene Crystals and $KI tokens from the game.

The gameplay of Genopets revolves around turn-based mini-games. Players battle each other in a pokemon inspired battle system and can wager their items and move sets with the winner walking back with all the rewards. Players can also win $KI by spectating these matches and predicting the winner. This prediction market is completely decentralized and provides players with additional earning options.

How to play Genopets?

Genopets is not out yet. The private beta opened on January 22, 2022, for private groups including Discord DNA members, NFT holders, and selected partners. However, interested users can sign up for the waitlist now.

To do so, head on to the Genopet website and click on the play now button on the top right corner. This will redirect users to a page where they can sign up for the beta. After you click on the beta sign-up option, click on login with wallet and select the Solana wallet of your choice from the list. After you have linked Solana wallet with your Genopets account, you will have secured your spot on the waitlist.

Genopets Marketplace

For buying and selling NFTs, players in the Genoverse can use the marketplace. Users will be given an option to trade their Genopets in the marketplace in return for a $KI token, $KI token is one of two native tokens with a focus on the transaction of in-game assets. Players who own Habitat can also earn and sell $KI tokens to people in need of a boost.

$KI Token

In the Genoverse, there are two main tokens - $KI and $GENE. Both of these tokens are used extensively inside the Genoverse but their use cases do not overlap. The $KI token is a reward token. With $KI, users can craft Habitat and other items. This also allows them to take part in the battle.

$GENE Token

Genoverse implements a Decentralized Autonomous Organization token to enable users to take decisions regarding the game. In Genoverse, the $GENE token holders vote on the future of the gameplay and all decisions are made unanimously. Users have the option to stake their $GENE tokens to earn rewards as well.
