Cross progression will be enabled after 4th October when Overwatch 1 is upgraded to Overwatch 2.

Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed that Overwatch 2 will have cross-progression at launch, which will allow players to carry over all progress from one platform to another. This also applies to all progress you have made on Overwatch 1 as all your cosmetics and account unlocks will be transferred to the sequel in October. Cross progression will be available on all platforms including PC, Switch, Xbox and PlayStation.

How to enable cross-progression in Overwatch 2?

One of the most important things to note about cross progression in Overwatch 2 is that border levels are being removed completely from the game. Whether you are a platinum border veteran or new to the game and still have a bronze border, you will lose account levels. However, all items that you have unlocked by leveling up and opening loot boxes will continue to be available in Overwatch 2.

The removal of Overwatch 2’s level borders has come as a bit of a shock to some players as it is the only real way of showing how much time you have put into the game. It also has a downside as there is some toxicity around borders. Players pick on others who have high account levels but do not perform as per expectations.

Once Overwatch 2 launches, players can use the same account on all platforms and they will get access to all their progression. It is very likely that your rank will not carry over from one platform to another. Cross progression will also not be available until Overwatch 2 actually launches. It is currently not available in the ongoing beta.

With Overwatch 2 going free-to-play, cross progression will be a lot easier to implement as there are no purchases involved to play the game. Previously, you could have the same account for multiple platforms but players were required to purchase Overwatch 1 multiple times and also not have any shared progression.

Overwatch 2 is launching on 4th October and all existing Overwatch 1 players will be upgraded to the sequel for free. Only the PVP content will be available at launch and the PVE content is expected to launch next year.
