Fortnite is a game that is packed with exciting collaborations. We’ve seen some of the biggest franchises and celebrities make their way into the Battle Royale. However, the current Doctor Who showrunner and executive producer Russell T. Davies has stated the rumor that the sci-fi show is crossing over with Fortnite is a “complete myth.”
Fortnite x Doctor Who Rumors Debunked by Russell T Davies
After months of rumors and speculations of a Fortnite x Doctor Who collaboration, the showrunner for the British sci-fi series has seemingly put them to rest. Doctor Who’s showrunner, Russel T. Davies, addressed the potential collaboration on Instagram after a commenter asked for any updates. Davies replied, calling the collaboration rumors “a complete myth,” and there was no update.
A Fortnite x Doctor Who collaboration rumor began last year as the show was approaching its 60th anniversary special in November. Reputable Fortnite leaker @iFireMonkey posted one of their early findings in April 2023, revealing a set of items that were to be featured.
The leaks also revealed an event called “U.N.I.T. Tardis Alert”. The U.N.I.T. refers to the fictional military organization in the Doctor Who series, and the Tardis is Doctor Who’s time machine.
Russell T Davies’ Instagram comment completely shoots down the rumor and indicates that the Fortnite x Doctor Who collaboration has failed to come to fruition. However, there’s a chance that the showrunner is lying in order to create a surprise for fans.
A Fortnite x Doctor Who collab makes perfect sense considering Disney’s hand in both IPs. In October 2022, Disney purchased the streaming rights for the iconic British series outside of the U.K. and Ireland. Meanwhile, it was revealed earlier this month that Disney has acquired a 1.5 Billion USD stake in Epic Games.
Doctor Who is all set to return to our screens on May 2024, where we will see Ncuti Gatwa as the 15th Doctor. So, if we’re going to see a Fortnite x Doctor collab, it’s likely to happen around May.
