With The International on the horizon, many within the community were looking forward to spamming their favorite caster’s voice line in matches. While their wishes did come true as Valve released the Broadcast Talent Stickers and Voice Lines earlier this week, many people were unhappy with the released product as players could only unlock their favorite voice lines by obtaining a Gold or Holo version of the caster’s sticker. To secure a Gold or Holo version of these stickers, players had to open multiple loot boxes and were often forced into spending ludicrous amounts to secure voice lines of a talent of their choosing.
Following the complaints of the Dota 2 community, Valve announced that it has updated the game to allow the players to directly purchase a talent’s voiceline separately.
Broadcast Talent sticker prices to return to normal as Valve allows for direct purchase of voice lines
Earlier this week, the talent list for this year’s The International 2022 (TI11) was announced on Twitter, along with sticker capsules for both broadcast talents attending TI11 & the remaining eighteen teams that qualified from the regional qualifiers.
However, many people were unhappy with Valve’s method of distribution regarding the talent voice lines compared to the one it had used previously at The International 2021 (TI10). This is mainly due to the method leaving people with a low 3.85% chance to receive any talent voice line, and 0.08246% or a 1 in 1196 chance of receiving a specific talent voiceline, as revealed by Kyle "Kyle" Freedman.
Furthermore, players who did receive a Gold or Holo version of the caster’s sticker unsurprisingly took advantage of the situation by selling the stickers at an unreasonably high price. This ticked off many people within the community as they could not afford the stickers.
In response to the complaints, Valve has announced earlier today that it will be adding the option to directly purchase a talent's voice line with 50% of the revenue going exclusively to that talent.
“Yesterday we shipped an update which added a capsule containing Talent Stickers that unlocked talent voice lines. Upon doing so, fans and talent alike reached out expressing unhappiness with the product. Our intention was to create a compelling system that allowed fans to connect with their favorite talent in a different way than in previous years, and we fell short of that goal. We are sorry for that and we intend to correct it”. Valve stated in its newest blog post.
Players can now breathe a sigh of relief as they can now purchase their favorite caster’s voice lines directly from the Talent section of the TI11 Battle Pass.
