During and after the conclusion of the Bali Major 2023, Valve’s official DPC rankings were riddled with errors, with some teams having more DPC points than others.
After a recent observation, Valve seems to have updated the official DPC rankings to reflect the correct number of DPC points for each team.
However, Valve has made no official announcements regarding the qualified teams on any of the social media platforms.

Valve has finally taken steps to rectify the issue with the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) rankings following the conclusion of the Bali Major 2023. The rankings now reflect the order originally presented by Liquipedia, bringing clarity to which teams have qualified for The International 2023 (TI12).

However, Valve has yet to make an announcement on social media to confirm all the teams that have qualified.

The rectified rankings on the official Dota 2 website

Valve’s official DPC rankings were reflecting incorrect rankings for the past few weeks, raising doubts about which teams had actually qualified for The International 12. There were even incorrect additions of points after the conclusion of the Bali Major 2023, which led to more questions regarding the position of each team on the DPC 2023 ranking.

However, a recent observation shows that Valve has since rectified the rankings of the teams on the official Dota 2 website, reflecting the correct 12 teams that qualified, matching Liquipedia’s rankings.

Past controversies with DPC rankings

In 2022, Valve's recalculation of the DPC rankings led to controversy when Virtus.pro (Outsiders) lost its presumed invitation to The International. The incident sparked widespread debate and raised concerns about the accuracy and consistency of Valve's ranking system.

The updated rankings follow the Bali Major 2023 and they show the teams that will travel to Seattle for TI12. Apart from the 12 teams determined by the rankings, eight additional teams will secure their TI12 spots through the regional qualifiers, scheduled to commence on 17th August. Each region will send one additional team whereas South America and Western Europe will field two teams each.

Valve's DPC rankings have faced scrutiny in the past due to inconsistencies and inaccuracies. The recent issue with the allocation of DPC points to teams eliminated in the group stages of the Bali Major 2023 raised questions about the integrity of the ranking system. Four teams, including Execration, nouns, Bleed Esports, and Blacklist International, received an unexplained bonus of 300 DPC points despite their early elimination from the tournament.

Valve's resolution of the DPC rankings issue after the Bali Major 2023 brings reassurance to the Dota 2 community regarding the qualification process for The International 2023. The adjustments align with the rankings established by Liquipedia, providing a clearer picture of the teams likely to secure a spot at TI12. While past controversies and inconsistencies have cast doubt on the accuracy of Valve's ranking system, the community eagerly awaits the official announcement of the qualified teams and looks forward to the intense competition at The International 2023.
