Patch 7.33d arrives as a surprise for the Dota 2 community, coinciding with the ongoing Dreamleague Season 20. With teams now transitioning to the new patch for Group Stage 2, the update brings various adjustments to heroes and items. Notably, 18 universal heroes have been tweaked, out of which 16 have received nerfs, underlining their strength compared to other picks. Additionally, a few items have undergone changes, including nerfs to Eternal Shroud, Octarine Core, Vanguard, and Ring of Health.

Gameplay Issues Fixed

In an effort to improve the overall gameplay experience, Valve addressed several issues in Patch 7.33d. The following gameplay issues were resolved:

  • Fixed the interaction of Phantom Assassin's Stifling Dagger and Dragon Knight's Dragon's Breath.

  • Resolved the issue with Phantom Lancer's Phantom Rush not being able to be toggled off while on cooldown.

  • Fixed Rubick's Spell Steal interaction with Multishot and Frost Arrows.

  • Rectified Spirit Breaker's Charge of Darkness going on indefinite cooldown in rare circumstances.

  • Adjusted Tiny's Tree Toss ability to prevent infinite throws when affected by Muerta's Parting Shot.

  • Resolved Tiny's death animation playing on soul unit when affected by Muerta's Parting Shot.

  • Fixed Warlock's Minor Imp imps not exploding when expiring.

  • Addressed the issue with Pangolier's Rolling Thunder being blocked by Mars' Arena of Blood.

  • Fixed Arc Warden shard granting some of its bonuses to enemies.

  • Rectified the Tormentor Bounty being 5x the value on Meepo when the entire team already has a shard.

Gameplay Issues Fixed

Out of these gameplay issues that were fixed, the most notable one that was seen by the community was the interaction between Pangolier’s Rolling Thunder and Mars’ Arena of Blood, that even happened in professional games.

Item Changes

Patch 7.33d introduces notable changes to 4 items, with a focus on nerfing these items as they were notably strong in 7.33c. These key item changes are:

ETERNAL SHROUD

  • Recipe Cost decreased from 800 to 600.

  • Total cost decreased from 3300 to 3100.

  • Shroud Mana conversion increased from 25% to 30%.

OCTARINE CORE

  • Recipe Changed: Old - Perseverance (1400), Soul Booster (3000), Recipe (200). New - Void Stone (700), Void Stone (700), Soul Booster (3000), Recipe (200).

  • Total cost remains unchanged.

  • No longer provides +7.5 Health Regen bonus.

  • Mana Regen bonus increased from +3.25 to +5.

RING OF HEALTH

  • Health Regen bonus decreased from 4.75 to 4.5.

VANGUARD

  • Health Regen bonus decreased from 4.75 to 4.5.

  • Damage Block decreased from 56/28 to 50/25 (melee/ranged).

7.33d item changes

All of the 4 items that were nerfed in 7.33d was considered to be overpowered by many professional players and figures in the community. For example, Offlaners would often buy Ring of Health as a first item after the reduced and complete Vanguard in an extremely fast timing, enabling them to win their lanes. Additionally, players would often disassemble Vanguard into its components to build Octarine Core, which was considered to be very cost-effective. These nerfs essentially prevent this from happening and provide some much-needed nerfs to the items.

Hero Changes - Nerfs & Buffs

Patch 7.33d brings significant adjustments to several heroes, aiming to refine the balance and diversity of the hero pool. Notably, universal heroes receive considerable nerfs, reflecting their strength in the previous meta. Here are 3 of the more significant nerfs and buffs:

Nerfs

Medusa's Mystic Snake had its mana gain reduced, and her Mana Shield illusions now have reduced damage absorption per mana. The stone duration of her Stone Gaze ability was also decreased, along with the duration increase provided by her level 20 talent.

Medusa

Void Spirit experienced a decrease in base strength, strength gain, and intelligence gain. The mana cost of his Dissimilate ability was increased, and Astral Step's Void Mark damage was reduced. Additionally, his talents underwent changes.

Void Spirit

Windranger's base attack speed and strength gain were decreased. The physical damage taken reduction provided by her Aghanim's Scepter was also reduced, while the damage reduction of her Focus Fire ability was increased. However, her level 20 talent saw a decrease in the damage reduction provided by Focus Fire.

Winranger

Buffs:

Enigma received buffs to two of his abilities. The damage per instance of Malefice was increased, and the radius of Midnight Pulse was also increased, expanding its area of effect.

Enigma

Lina's Dragon Slave ability had its cooldown reduced, and her Aghanim's Shard upgrade now provides increased damage on spells per stack of Fiery Soul. The spell amplification of Flame Cloak was also increased, and its duration was extended.

Lina

Lycan's ultimate ability, Shapeshift, had its cooldown reduced at all levels, enabling more frequent transformations. Additionally, his level 15 talent now provides more bonus health to wolves.

Lycan

Patch 7.33d brings several balance adjustments to the game, including buffs and nerfs to various items and heroes, with a focus on nerfing dominant heroes and powerful items. While new patches are often released before or after events, 7.33d surprises the community by making an appearance during the Dreamleague Season 20. Only time will tell how this will impact the tournament and games to come.
