Two Confirmed Cases of COVID-19 Detected at TI10
Valve just announced that two individuals at The International 10 (TI10) have tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, these individuals and everyone who was in contact with them have been isolated. TI10 continues to take place as per schedule, with the match between Virtus.Pro and Team Spirit currently underway despite this recent setback.
Valve Makes Official Announcement on Confirmed Positive COVID Cases
Earlier today, talent on the TI10 broadcast team suddenly started wearing masks on the official livestream of the tournament, leading fans to speculate about positive COVID cases in the tournament. Valve has confirmed these suspicions by releasing an official announcement on it.
Earlier this month, Team Secret's manager, Matthew "Cyborgmatt" Bailey stated that players and talent attending TI10 were equipped with a device that makes note of who they are in contact with to allow the organizers to quickly isolate the necessary people in case someone displays COVID symptoms. It is likely that Valve is using this system to isolate talent and players who were in contact with the infected individuals.
Earlier just before the tournament kicked off, individuals from Invictus Gaming and Team Aster tested positive for the virus and were placed under quarantine. They have since recovered and competed in the event.
Despite the early setbacks, the event was taking place relatively smoothly with no setbacks before this recent development. The pandemic continues to affect esports events across the world and despite safety precautions taken by organizers, staff and players continue to be affected.
