TSM and Evil Geniuses Are Going to the ESL One Stockholm 2022 Major
TSM and Evil Geniuses convincingly beat Quincy Crew in two back-to-back series and have secured their spots at the ESL One Stockholm 2022 Major by finishing as the top two teams in the North American Dota 2 Pro Circuit (DPC) 2021/22 Upper Division Tour 2. Quincy Crew will have to settle for a third place finish in this tour, taking home $27K USD in prize money and 160 DPC points and look to regroup for Tour 3 of the NA DPC 2021/22 Upper Division.
At the time of writing, TSM and Evil Geniuses are playing each other to determine the de facto top team in the division.
Evil Geniuses systematically pick apart Quincy Crew in the tiebreakers opener
In the first game of the tiebreakers, Evil Geniuses stuck to its tried and tested Storm Spirit for Abed “Abed” Azel L. Yusop, who proceeded to find kill after kill, making space for Artour "Arteezy" Babaev to quickly farm up key items on his Medusa. The game was very slow-paced with both teams opting to avoid skirmishes, which ended up being advantageous for Evil Geniuses.
However, many pointed to Quincy Crew’s questionable draft and playstyle as the primary culprit behind the team’s loss. A last pick Lich for Remus "ponlo" Goh Zhi Xian and Milan "MiLAN" Kozomara decision to prioritize leveling up Spirits despite playing with a Leshrac in its lineup crippled the team in the mid-game, allowing EG to take over the game and secure the win in just over 30 minutes.
TSM deny Quincy Crew’s chances of qualifying for the Major
Quincy Crew’s second game in the tiebreakers was eerily similar to its previous draft. Once again, the team played really passive allowing the opponent mid (this time Jonathan Bryle "Bryle" Santos on Queen of Pain) to take over the game. Combining with David "MoonMeander" Tan Boon Yang’s Shadow Shaman, he raked up a number of kills and shut down Quinn "Quinn" Callahan’s impact.
The fact that Maurice "KheZu" Gutmann had a terrible game on his Mars compounded Quincy Crew’s problems, since it left them without a frontline initiator. Enzo "Timado" Gianoli O'Connor fully capitalized on this and took over the game around the 20 minute mark, to snowball to victory.
We will see Evil Geniuses and TSM in action at the ESL One Stockholm 2022 Major. So far OG, Gaimin Gladiators, Tundra Esports, Team Liquid, PSG.LGD, BOOM Esports, Fnatic and Thunder Awaken have also secured their spots in the tournament.
The Major will take place in the Hovet Arena, Stockholm, Sweden from May 12 to 22 with 18 teams vying for the lion’s share of the $500K prize pool and 3,530 DPC points that will be at stake in this event.
