Team Spirit are just one loss away from dropping out of contending for a spot in the Stockholm Major and the Upper Division of the Eastern European Dota 2 Pro Circuit (DPC) 2021/2022 after a surprise loss to BetBoom Team in the Tour 2 playoffs. The International 10 champions were completely outplayed by BetBoom over the course of the series and will now have to journey through the lower bracket for a shot at the Stockholm Major spot. Team Spirit will need to win its series against HellRaisers tomorrow to avoid being relegated to the Lower Division.
Betboom Team features veterans like Nikita "Daxak" Kuzmin and Akbar "SoNNeikO" Butaev as well as new-blood like Denis "Larl" Sigitov, Evgeniy "Noticed" Ignatenko, and Maksim "forcemajor" Meretskii who were all part of the former VP.Prodigy lineup. It was the bottom seeded team coming into this tournament, making this victory a lot more surprising for fans of this match.
BetBoom Team hands a devastating loss to Team Spirit
Coming into this series, Team Spirit were overwhelmingly favored to win this match thanks to its victory at DPC 2021/2022 Tour 1: Regional Finals. However, BetBoom Team showed that it was no push-over by securing a scintillating victory in Game 1 on the back of incredible execution and a ridiculous amount of damage from Larl’s late-game Snapfire.
However, Team Spirit managed to reset and secure a relatively quick victory in the second game of the series to push it to a deciding Game 3. The third game was a back-and-forth affair with both teams giving it their all. But Betboom Team simply had the better late-game draft with an Aghanim’s Scepter + Refresher Orb Chen making teamfights impossible for Team Spirit.
With an overfarmed Terrorblade knocking on the barracks, Team Spirit’s midlane star Alexander "TORONTOTOKYO" Khertek went for a Divine Rapier purchase in an attempt to make a comeback. However, that too ended in disaster. The courier was spotted and killed, handing the Rapier to BetBoom, securing the win for the underdogs.
BetBoom Team will face Natus Vincere in the next round of the Eastern European DPC 2021/22 Tour 2 Playoffs. A win here will put the team one victory away from a berth at the Stockholm Major.
With momentum on its side, BetBoom may just have what it takes to go all the way.
