Some of the finest teams in the world competed in some exciting Group Stage action for the Lima Major, showcasing new meta picks and innovative strategies. All teams from both groups played on Day One, but it was Team Spirit’s series against TSM in Group A and Shopify Rebellion’s series against BetBoom Team in Group B that stood out on the first day.

While the two mentioned matches are considered as the main highlighted matches of Day 1, there were a lot of matches and highlights to keep up with on the first day of the group stage. So here is a full recap of what went down on Day One.

Lima Major 2023 Group Stage: Day One Recap

Group A

Tundra Esports shares top spot with Talon Esports and Gaimin Gladiators

Being heralded as the best team in the world, many expected Tundra Esports to dominate its opponents on Day 1 with ease. Despite drawing with Southeast Asian (SEA) team Execration, Tundra Esports was able to end the day on top of the standings with a victory against EHOME.

The International 2022 (TI11) champion was not alone at the top as both Talon Esports & Gaimin Gladiators also shared the top spot with Tundra Esports.

Team Spirit’s Collapse reminds everyone why he is the most feared Magnus player.

Despite losing to Gaimin Gladiators, Team Spirit showed that it was not so easily demoralized in its match against TSM where it won with a clean 2-0 sweep. Additionally, Magomed "Collapse" Khalilov reminded everyone that he can make a big impact if given the chance to play his best hero, Magnus.

PSG.LGD struggles against the American region

PSG.LGD had it rough as the team faced heavy opposition from the teams based in the American region. PSG.LGD was able to draw against the newly reformed Evil Geniuses, but it was unable to defeat TSM as the team ended the Day with a 1-3 win-loss ratio.

Group B

Entity at the top of Group B after Day 1

Being the only team to have ended the day with a 4-0 win-loss record, Entity settled itself at the top of the group after dispatching the likes of Geek Slate & Knights. Many are expecting Entity to make use of its early momentum as the team is vying for a playoff spot at the end of the group stages.

Shopify Rebellion entertains at BetBoom Team’s expense

Shopify Rebellion was highly expected to hit the ground running at the Major, and it did not disappoint as the North American (NA) organization provided some of the best highlights of the day. During the team’s match against BetBoom Team, many were left bewildered as Artour "Arteezy" Babaev managed to survive a crucial teamfight despite forgetting to pick up the Aegis of Immortality.

BetBoom Team struggles alongside HellRaisers

Considered as a top contender for the championship at the Major, BetBoom Team was also expected to dominate Group B with ease. However, the team was quickly humbled after Day 1 following a 0-2 defeat at the hands of Shopify Rebellion and a draw against Team Liquid.

HellRaisers also had a bad day at the office, as the team got rolled over by Team Liquid and Geek Slate to finish the day at the bottom three in the standings.

Day One of the Group Stage unveiled lots of interesting drafts and nail-biting games along with upsets from underdog teams. We will have more action later tonight as Day Two of the Group Stage will begin at 11:00 PM SGT.
