Dota 2 has been officially listed amongst the 2022 video game list of “Platinum” Best Sellers on Steam. Following the return of the competitive LAN environment, Dota 2 has seen an increase in terms of player base and also gross revenue in 2022. Additionally, prior to The International 2022 (TI11) Dota 2 saw its highest peak player count in almost four years which also led to its inclusion in the Steam’s “Most Played” video games at the end of the year.
Dota 2 saw massive increase in gross revenue & player base
2022 turned out to be a great year for Dota 2, despite the notable decrease in prize pool earnings at its latest iteration of The International (TI11) as the game was recently listed on Steam as one of 2022’s “Platinum” Best Sellers on Steam.
Many believed that one of the main reasons behind the achievement was mainly due to the massive increase in player base as well as The International’s annual Battle Pass, where players could purchase the Battle Pass to obtain exclusive in-game cosmetics such as Faceless Void’s Arcana & Crystal Maiden’s persona to name a few.
Additionally throughout the year, Dota 2 saw its highest peak player count in almost four years following Valve's announcement of 'The International Swag Bag’ with the peak player count reaching 920,538 in October 2022.
The massive increase in player base also saw Dota 2 being listed as one of the “Most Played” video games in 2022 on Steam following a massive increase of peak concurrent players throughout the year.
While many people are still calling Dota 2 a “dead game”, Dota 2’s achievement in 2022 is no small feat as it proved that the game can still compete with the newest generation of video games.
