Highlights
Yesterday saw Dota 2’s player number increase to a new high, as the game registered its newest highest peak player number since August 2019.
August 2019 was the last time that the peak player numbers were higher, where the record stood at 826,690.
The sudden increase of players can be attributed to the recent release of The International 2022 (TI11) Battle Pass and the release of the DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 3 amongst other things.

Despite the issues surrounding Valve regarding its content of the recently released Battle Pass and PGL’s acquisition of a betting sponsor for TI11, the average player count of Dota 2 appears to have a sudden increase. According to data tracking website, Steam Charts, Dota 2 recorded a peak player count of 826,804 which is the highest concurrent player count in almost three years.

Dota 2’s sudden increase in player count can be attributed to the recent release of The International 2022 (TI11) Battle Pass and the release of the 7.32 patch amongst other things.

Early September Sees A Sudden Increase of Dota 2 Player Numbers

Despite the Dota 2 community’s disappointment regarding Valve’s TI11 Battle Pass release and PGL’s acquisition of a betting sponsor for TI11, the community remained strong as the game’s user base registered a few impressive stats in the past couple of months. While the average player count for Dota 2 is steadily increasing, the peak player count has reached a new high since August 2019. The last time it crossed the 800,000 mark was in August 2019 when it had recorded a player-count of 826,690.

Dota 2 player count statistics over the past 12 months.

However, within the past 30 days, Dota 2 saw a sudden increase in both average player count and peak player count.

The sudden increase in peak players and average player count can be attributed to the recent release of The International 2022 (TI11) Battle Pass and its content, which is seen as an interesting factor for players to log into the game more frequently than they normally would.

Another thing that could have contributed to the sudden increase is the release of DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 3 back in early August, as viewers might have logged onto the game to understand the lore better or just wanted to try out Dota 2.

Perhaps the release of patch 7.32 also played a part in increasing the player count. Finally, August saw the conclusion of both the PGL Arlington Major 2022 as well as ESL One Malaysia 2022 with many interesting storylines happening as well as high stakes matches occurring during the month. Perhaps this also lead to an increase and renewed interest in the game

With the upcoming summer break for most countries, it is expected that the players count on the road to TI11.
