Dataminers Discover Muerta’s Ability Concepts in Dota 2

Not much was known about the upcoming hero, Muerta which was expected to be released in early 2023 in Dota 2. However as of late, data miners have managed to gather what appears to be an early glimpse of how the hero would work.

Muerta was revealed to the Dota 2 community as its 124th hero at The International 2022 (TI11) after the Ability Draft showmatch at TI11. While much is known Muerta in terms of its lore and connections to certain in-game items and other heroes, the upcoming hero’s skill set is yet to be revealed.

Early glimpses of Muerta’s skill set

Dota 2 data mining group DОТА_DM, known for digging the game’s database for up and coming content, recently discovered what appeared to be an early glimpse of Muerta’s upcoming abilities.

Based on the information found by DOTA_DM, all of the data is using placeholder images that range from existing abilities such as Gyrocopter’s skill images to sketches. As for the file names, all of the files are labeled with 3 distinctive nicknames which are “bird_samurai”, “corpse_mother” and “gunslinger”. While the first nickname does not closely resemble the upcoming hero based on the abilities’ concept art, the other two nicknames seemed to be a perfect fit for the upcoming hero.

For example, Gunslinger’s early concept of Empowered Round would work in the same way as Drow Ranger’s Frost Arrows by providing bonus damage while Fan The Hammer could be used in the same way as Gyrocopter’s Rocket Barrage, firing a full salvo into a specific target.

As for the Corpse Mother’s concept, which can be heavily considered as Muerta’s in-game file name, would make use of her lore as the hero is teased as “an enduring revenant”. Additionally, the ability concepts of Grave Grapple, Life Link, Soul Swell and True Love will most likely play into her more revenant abilities. 

As for the Bird Samurai’s ability concept, the revealed abilities could be reworked in the future to be included in Muerta’s abilities. The only connection that Muerta has to a bird is that of her design, as she can be seen wearing what appears to be a feathery cloak.

While it is yet unknown if any of the aforementioned skills will make the final cut, the timing of the leak could potentially mean an upcoming major patch in the weeks leading up to the Lima Major.
