While some players had chosen to take a break for the upcoming season, others made their return into the Dota 2 competitive scene as the trio of Johan "N0tail" Sundstein, Sebastian "Ceb" Debs and Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen reunited to create a new stack called Old G.
While Topson has publicly made his return well known during his recent stint with T1, many were skeptical about N0tail’s return for the upcoming season as the two-time The International (TI) champion was unclear with regards to his future plans prior to the off-season. Additionally, many were expecting Ceb to come out of retirement and join the stack despite the player having formally retired after The International 2021 (TI10).
Ceb jokingly revealed that he did not agree to the team’s name
Following the discovery of the newly created stack, the duo of Ceb & Topson talked about the team’s creation in an interview with OG CEO JMR Luna.
At the start of the interview, Ceb funnily made it clear that he did not agree with the team’s name as he was not in the conversation. However, he also talked about how the team came to be as they were looking to have fun for the upcoming season with Volodymyr "Noone" Minenko & Arif "MSS" Anwar in the mix.
“[laughs] I should have never agreed to this name by the way. I was actually not in the conversation about the team’s name as I just had to register on that name. But yeah, to tell you more about it basically, since we [N0tail, Ceb, Topson] wanted to play a bit of DOTA here and there like either pubs or ranked matches, why don’t we get together and play some official matches? We would be playing with people that we enjoyed playing with and believe in more. So we sat down with the other two [MSS & Noone] and talked about it. They were fully on board with it and now we have something to work with.”
Ceb also stated that Old G is created mostly for personal entertainment, as the team will have nothing to do with OG in the upcoming competitive season. Additionally, Ceb noted that he is looking forward to facing Janne "Gorgc" Stefanovski’s Team Bald Reborn should the team qualify for Division II of the Western European Dota Pro Circuit (WEU DPC) league.
“We’re not looking to compete at the highest level, that’s also the reason why this team will have nothing to do with OG right now. We’re not aiming to go high up, nor are we putting pressure on ourselves or attending tournaments. We’re literally just trying to be chill playing Dota 2. We’re hoping to qualify for Division II to get some games against Gorgc [& Team Bald Reborn]”
As of now, here is Old G’s confirmed lineup for the upcoming 2022/2023 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season:-
Volodymyr "Noone" Minenko
Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen
Sebastian "Ceb" Debs
Arif "MSS" Anwar
Johan "N0tail" Sundstein
Based on the interview, the lineup will be playing in the open qualifiers of the upcoming WEU (Western Europe) DPC. However, based on the caliber of the lineup alone it will be shocking if the team does not qualify for Division II.
