Execration is SEA’s representative in the Wild Cards of the WePlay AniMajor 2021 and they went toe to toe against top teams from other regions in the first day of the Wild Cards. SEA teams have always been considered the weaker teams at tournaments but OB.Neon proved the non-believers wrong at the Singapore Major where they almost pulled off a dream lower bracket run at the playoffs.  Coming into the WePlay AniMajor, Execration has their work cut out for them and a lot of expectations on their back to recreate the SEA magic that OB.Neon showed us at the Singapore Major.

Execration Holds its Own Against IG, VG and AS Monaco Gambit

SEA’s contender Execration at a stalemate after Day One of the AniMajor Wild Cards

Execration came in from the SEA DPC regional league where they finished third and defeated Fnatic in a tiebreaker for third place for a spot at the Wild Cards of the AniMajor. They had a stable performance in the DPC league, ending with a 4-3 score. Only one win behind the top two team’s 5-2 scores.

Execration has currently played three out of their five Wild Card series. Their first series was against previous Major winners Invictus Gaming which ended in a 1-1 draw. iG took the first game convincingly by thirty-five minutes and Execration struck back in Game Two, taking it in thirty-four minutes. Execration played ASM Gambit in their second series where they again dropped the first game but struck back in the second to make it a 1-1 draw. Their third series of Day one was against the other Chinese team of the Wild Card, Vici Gaming. As per their style, Execration dropped the first game to VG and proceeded to take game two, ending their first day of the wild cards with a 3-3 tie with the other teams.

Coming into the Major, the Chinese teams have been heavily favored by the talents in their predictions and have been called the ‘best region’ by some. Execration has already put a stop to the two Chinese teams at the Wild Card and has smashed their momentum by tie-ing up the scoreboard on day one. And if that’s a sign of things to come, we may be looking at tie-breakers in the Wild Card for the two spots at the Group Stage with how the scoreboard looks.

Execration has two series left in Day Two of the Wild Cards where they will be playing European Teams Nigma and Secret. Will Execration put a stop to their momentum as well and replicate the SEA magic? Find out with us on 3 June 2021 at the WePlay AniMajor.
