Neon Esports Qualifies for Singapore Major Playoffs After Deth Replaces Rappy
- Neon Esports was forced to bring in a Deth as a stand-in to replace Rappy after the latter was exposed to COVID-19
- They managed to qualify for the playoffs after they finished in the bottom of the table on Day 1 of the Group Stages.
- Alliance was eliminated from the Singapore Major after the team failed to win a single series at the tournament.
Neon Esports have managed to qualify for the Playoffs of the ONE Esports Singapore Major after they were forced to swap their stand-in earlier today. Neon Esports’ offlaner at the Singapore Major, Rappy, was forced to step down from his stand-in role since he has been in ‘close contact’ with someone who had COVID-19. He was replaced by Singaporean native, Yang "Deth" Wu Heng in Day 2 of the Group Stages, who has seemingly turned around Neon Esports’ fortunes at the Singapore Major. The team finished with a 1-1-3 Win-Loss-Draw record in the Group Stages.
Neon Esports’s Stand-In Situation Proves to be a Blessing in Disguise
Earlier today, Neon Esports posted a statement on their social media handles explaining that they would no longer be playing with their stand-in Rappy since “he has been in ‘close contact’ with someone who has COVID-19. Neon Esports also confirmed that he was tested negative multiple times before joining the team at the hotel.
However, since Neon Esports did not want to give up, they picked up a replacement: Yang “Deth” Wu Heng a Singaporean native. This proved to be a blessing in disguise, as the new-look team managed to go on a tear and secured a place in the playoffs after some incredible performances against Thunder Predator, Alliance, and Team Liquid.
Alliance Eliminated From the Singapore Major
Only one team was eliminated from the tournament in the Group Stages of the ONE Esports Singapore Major. Surprisingly, it was the European team Alliance who was rated as one of the strongest teams coming into the tournament. The team looked out of sorts and simply did not play coherently, failing to win a single series in this tournament.
The team departs from the Singapore Major without winning any prize money or DPC points as a result of their poor performance. The team will have to put up a strong performance in the second season of the 2021 DPC to secure a direct invite to The International 10.
ViCi Gaming, PSG.LGD and Thunder Predator Book Their Places in the Upper Brackets
On the other half of the table, Thunder Predator continued to stand strong finishing on top of the table without dropping a single series in this tournament. Overall, the South American team has a 10-2 score in this major (The team's final game against PSG.LGD is still ongoing at the time of writing.)
The two historic Chinese Powerhouses, ViCi Gaming and PSG.LGD also qualified for the Upper Brackets with the latter having much more dominant performances in the Group Stages. Considering the fact that Invictus Gaming is already in the playoffs, three Chinese teams are currently in the Upper Bracket Playoffs of the Singapore Major, the highest amongst all the regions.
