Geek Fam Shuts Down Its Dota 2 Roster
In a post on Facebook, Geek Fam explained why it had to decide to let go of its successful Dota 2 roster.
Geek Fam stated that the lockdowns due to the ongoing pandemic, has impacted their operations significantly. The shutdown of the Dota 2 Pro Circuit, the indefinite delay of The International 10, and no updates to the Dota Pro Circuit up until now was cited as the main reasons for their shutdown.
However, there is one glimmer of hope for fans of the team. Geek Fam also added that it was merely putting a pause on their operations and that they will resume their operations in the Dota 2 scene when “there is a visible future for Dota 2 and the DPC”.
Geek Fam also thanked the players who played with them this season and the fans who’ve supported them this season in their closing note.
Geek Fam’s Dota 2 roster has had a fairly successful season before its shutdown. It managed to qualify to two Minors (Dota Summit 11, WePlay! Bukovel Minor) and one Major (ESL One Los Angeles 2020 Major) before the lockdowns were imposed. During the lockdown, the team went from strength to strength, winning the BTS Pro Series Season 2: Southeast Asia and the ONE Esports Dota 2 SEA League as well as multiple Top 3 finishes.
The former Geek Fam players that have now become Free Agents are:

- Matthew "Whitemon" Filemon
