  • Geek Fam beat Fnatic 2-1 at the BTS Pro Series Season 2: Southeast Asia playoffs.
  • This is Fnatic's first loss in a playoffs series since January 2020.
  • Geek Fam has secured a Top 3 finish in this tournament.

Before today’s match, Fnatic’s last loss in a playoff series came at the hands of TNC Predator at DreamLeague Season 13: The Leipzig Major in January 2020. Since then, the team has competed in five tournaments (1 LAN and 4 online tournaments) and one qualifier. They hadn’t dropped a single series through this entire run.

Geek Fam broke that streak, today, at the BTS Pro Series Season 2: Southeast Asia. The team knocked down Fnatic to the lower brackets after a convincing 2-1 victory, securing themselves a Top 3 finish in this tournament.

Fnatic vs Geek Fam

Game 1: Fnatic started off things with a one-sided victory over Geek Fam. The team just rolled through the Geek Fam lineup steadily building up a massive net worth advantage (22k at 36 minutes) thanks to multiple kills and a continuous snowball which saw them take control of the map. They used this to overwhelm Geek Fam and easily secure the victory in the opening game of the series.

Game 2: Geek Fam answered with an unorthodox draft which saw them pick an offlane Ember Spirit for Kuku. However, this ended up working as the team made a ridiculous amount of space for Raven, allowing him to farm up a storm and carry his team to victory.

Game 3: Although Fnatic started off the deciding Game 3 well gearing up for a spectacular late game on the back of 23savage’s Faceless Void, Geek Fam managed to claw their way back into the game on the back of some well-executed teamfights to take the win.

Highlights

Fnatic will now face Adroit/Reality Rift in an elimination matchup. They are inarguably the favourites, but since this is unfamiliar territory for the SEA giants, an upset may be on the cards.
