Former VP General Manager States That WESG Tournaments Department Has Been Shut Down
  • Former Virtus.Pro general manager Roman Dvoryankin revealed that Alisports has disbanded its esports department and hence will not host WESG tournaments any more.
  • TNC Predator has won two editions of the tournament while Team Russia has won one.
  • The finals of the 2019/20 edition was postponed indefinitely due to the ongoing global lockdown.

The World Electronic Sports Games (WESG) series of tournaments have allegedly been cancelled according to former Virtus.Pro general manager, Roman Dvoryankin.

In his social media he posted:

“Alibaba disbanded the esports department within Alisports a couple of months ago, and there will be no more WESG tournaments. It was a strange but fun tournament, we will always remember our trips to Hainan and Chongqing!”

Alisports/WESG is yet to make a statement on this matter.

History of WESG

The World Electronic Sports Games series began in 2016 with Dota 2, CS:GO, StarCraft II and Hearthstone. In the Dota 2 side of things, TNC Predator won the first-ever edition of the tournament. This was a monumental win for the region.

In 2017, Team Russia (featuring 4 Virtus.Pro players) won the tournament. The Filipino powerhouse, TNC Predator won it again in 2018 despite their offlaner Kuku being banned from the tournament.

The finals of the 2019/20 edition was postponed indefinitely because of the current global lockdown.
