YEKINDAR Talks About Goals of New VP CS:GO Roster, Changes in His Role
YEKINDAR is confident in the revamped Virtus.pro lineup.
The agressive entry fragger, Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis, has had an impressive run at the recently concluded PGL Major Stockholm 202. Despite Virtus.pro (VP) making a last-minute roster change, leading to the team facing a lot of criticism from the community, the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) squad managed to make it all the way through to the Legends Stage.
With the tournament coming to an end and the next competitive season close at hand, YEKINDAR discussed the goals that VP has set out for itself, changes in his role as Evgeniy "FL1T" Lebedev took the responsibility of entry fragging in certain situations, and some more details in an interview with Rush B Media.
Virtus.pro's goals for the next year with the revamped CS:GO lineup
Virtus.pro, despite a shaky season, finished the PGL Major Stockholm 2021 at the 5th-8th position, bowing out of the competition in the quarterfinals after making it all the way through to the Challengers Stage.
Talking about the future of the revamped roster where FL1T has replaced the long time member Sanjar "SANJI" Kuliev, YEKINDAR, who whole heartedly believes in this lineup, says:
We want to get to the top three. We were once in the top three for a while, back when I had first joined the team and going forward we want to be the best team in the world. I believe with this lineup, we have a lot of potential. We can go higher than our current ceiling, higher than the sun.Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis - Interview with Rush B Media
Apart from this, YEKINDAR has had to face a change in his role at times due to FL1T taking on the responsibility of finding the space and making the plays on behalf of the team.
Speaking on how this would work for VP going ahead, the 22-year-old said that their previous system was obsolete now as SANJI and FL1T are completely different players, so something new has to be adopted by them as a unit.
We have the five players now, a new player as well, and the system will change as well. So maybe I’m not going to be having the same roles that I have had before because of the clash of roles with FL1T. But we’ll see what brings us the best result possible. So everything is possible!Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis - Interview with Rush B Media
Since after the Major, Virtus.pro has gone on to crash out of the REPUBLEAGUE Season 2 facing a '2-1' loss against Eternal Fire. It will be interesting to see how this team develops moving forward.
