PGL comes forward with an official update on the CS:GO Major, stating that they are in direct discussions with the Swedish authorities.
Two other unnamed European countries are being considered as backups to host the PGL CS:GO Major.
PGL highlights two basic requirements for the Major to be held in Sweden - To fly in all the qualified players and to entertain large number of spectators inside the venue.

A couple of days after PGL and Valve had been invited for a meeting by Amanda Lind - the Minister for Culture and Democracy, the CS:GO Major organizers have come forward with an official update on the situation. PGL stated that they are still in "direct discussions with the Swedish authorities and working to find a solution," in order to host the PGL Major Stockholm 2021 in Sweden itself. Already, the Swedish Esports Association and even Anna König Jerlmyr - Mayor of Stockholm have tried their best to resolve the situation, supporting the notion of hosting the CS:GO Major in Sweden.

Two European Countries Secured as Backup to Host CS:GO Major

PGL, while stating that they are in direct discussions with the Swedish authorities, highlighted their requirements that need to be fulfilled at all costs for the CS:GO Major to take place in Stockholm, Sweden.

  • We need to fly in all the qualified players into Sweden.

  • Entertain a large number of spectators inside the venue.

Current restrictions in Sweden only allow a maximum of 300 spectators within the Avicii Arena, the location for the PGL Major Stockholm 2021. However, these restrictions might be lifted after 15th September, depending on the development of the COVID-19 situation in the region.

As a backup, PGL is in touch with two other European countries who have already agreed to both their primary requests. For now, these two backup venues have not been revealed, but PGL has stated that,

With certain European countries reopening really fast for events, we have a very short window of opportunity to secure a new venue that will allow a large vaccinated audience, even with an uncertain COVID situation."
PGL - Official CS:GO Major Update

PGL is still trying their best to hosting the Major in Sweden itself, but do reiterate that if the conditions outlines are not met, they will have to go forward with one of the backup venues, shifting the event to a whole different country.

PGL’s CEO, Silviu Stroie had earlier stated that they are running out of time. Though there has been some conversation with the Swedish authorities since then, no positive development has been reported so far.
