The organizers have outlined that the PGL Major Stockholm 2021 will be taking place as initially planned, running from 26th October to 7th November with the playoffs set to take place at Avicii Arena.

For the first time in 15 months the Avicii Arena will be packed with an audience, following Swedish authorities' decision to lift spectator restrictions from public gatherings and events, 29th September onwards.

Additionally, this Major will also be featuring the biggest prize pool in CS:GO history, a total amount of $2,000,000 USD alongside ESL Pro Tour points.

Correction Note: An earlier version of this story stated that this was Sweden's first-ever CS:GO Major. It is actually the third time a Major is taking place in Sweden and the first time in Stockholm.

Avicii Arena - Location for PGL CS:GO Major Stockholm

The agreement comes following Swedish authorities' relaxation of certain restrictions which were pointed out by PGL as being their primary concerns for hosting the CS:GO Major in Stockholm.

  • First, the player restrictions towards esports athletes was waived off by including esports competitions in the same exception category as elite sports tournaments.

  • Second, the spectator restrictions from public gatherings and events were also removed. This allows PGL to fill up Avicii Arena to its maximum capacity which shall truly elevate the experience of this CS:GO LAN tournament.

Both the decisions were taken by the Swedish authorities well before the deadlines presented by PGL - 19th August and 15th September respectively. Though their implementations was enforced at a later date, PGL has found the cooperation to be solid enough to officially make their final decision.

The schedule of the PGL Major Stockholm 2021 is as follows,

  • Group Stage: 26th October to 3rd November

  • Playoffs: 4th to 7th November

    4th November: Quarterfinals 1 and 2

    5th November: Quarterfinals 3 and 4

    6th November: Semifinals 1 and 2

7th November: Grand Finals and Show Match

The last RMR (Regional Major Ranking) tournament leading up to the Major is still left to be played out, as teams from all the regions prepare for the upcoming IEM Fall 2021 which acts as the final qualifier.

It will be interesting to see how the regional leaderboards stand following the conclusion of this final RMR event, with some teams already having booked a slot while others are still hopeful of attaining one.
