MAD Lions Shuts Down Entire CS:GO Division After More Than Four Years
The Spanish esports organization has stepped down from competitive CS:GO.
Multi-gaming Spanish esports organization MAD Lions announced yesterday on 20th April that it was shutting down all operations of its CS:GO division. After more than four years, since MAD Lions first entered the esports title in September 2017, the organization is ready to hang up its gloves and step back from competing in the Valve shooter.
This news comes just three months into the 2022 season with MAD Lions not having achieved anything significant so far. Additionally, the team also failed to qualify for both the European RMR and the European qualifier for IEM Dallas 2022.
The organization further announced that all the players on its current lineup have been put on a transfer list, with MAD Lions also helping them in finding a new team.
MAD Lions shuts down all CS:GO operations after more than four years
MAD Lions had started its journey in CS:GO back in 2017 and has been involved in the game ever since, competing with various different lineups over the years who have won various tournaments for the Spanish organization.
Unfortunately, following a dismal start to the year which had kicked off with various changes like signing Michał "MICHU" Müller and Viktor "somedieyoung" Orudzhev to the roster, MAD Lions decided to pull the plug and fold its entire CS:GO operations.
No particular reason behind the closure of its CS:GO department was revealed by MAD Lions as part of its announcement. However, a quick look at OverActive Media's (owners of MAD Lions) 2021 financial report might point towards financial woes.
According to last year's annual financial report, the company posted a loss of over $15,000,000 USD in 2021. This coupled with the CS:GO team's disappointing run following its win at Flashpoint Season 1 in April 2020, could be the reason behind MAD Lions closure of this particular division.
All the players that were part of the MAD Lions CS:GO team have been transfer listed with the organization also trying to help them out in finding new teams. The players that are currently available for other teams to sign are,
Thomas "TMB" Bundsbæk - IGL | Denmark
Justinas "jL" Lekavicius - AWPer / Rifler (Entry Fragger) | Lithuania
Johannes "b0RUP" Borup - Rifler (Support) | Denmark
