  • In a close match between Na'Vi and Gambit, s1mple and Boombl4 were able to pull off a highlight 2v5 clutch to win a crucial round for their side.
  • It all started with Boombl4 securing a knife kill which snowballed into a C4 plant on 'A-Site' and finally a round win for Na'Vi.
  • Despite the heroics, Na'Vi lost the series to Gambit '2-1' failing to directly qualify for the semifinals slot.

Na’Vi gave a tough competition to the new CIS kings Gambit in their recent match at the currently ongoing DreamHack Masters Spring 2021. The teams were vying for the semifinals slot having already qualified for the playoffs, but this did not stop them from going all out against each other. Both the teams went on to dominate their own map picks with the decider taking place on Mirage. Though Na’Vi lost this map, both Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev and Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhailov went on to pull off a highlight 2v5 clutch in the 26th round, keeping their comeback dream alive as Gambit stood on map point.

S1mple and Boombl4 keep Na’Vi comeback dream alive

After 2 close maps where both the teams dominated on their respective picks, Na’Vi winning ‘16-8’ on Dust 2 followed by Gambit’s ‘16-7’ comeback on Overpass to equalize the series ‘1-1’. The teams went all out on Mirage to win the decider, which would directly secure them a semifinals slot in the playoffs.

Na’Vi was smacked hard with an overpowering ‘T-sided’ play from Gambit that saw them trail by a ‘4-11’ scoreline. The s1mple led squad tried to make a valiant comeback in the second half but Gambit kept chipping rounds away to reach map point with the score showing ‘15-9’. Despite this Na’Vi did not give up, with s1mple and Boombl4 saving the team in the 26th round on the back of an incredible 2v5 clutch.

The above clip shows the brilliant clutch in action that started off with Boombl4 taking a knife kill outside ‘Ladder Room’, as both him and s1mple rushed towards ‘A-Site’ to plant the C4. Now finding themselves in a 2v2 situation, Boombl4 had the perfect read on the situation but was unfortunately caught off guard with a knife in his hand.

S1mple now feeling the action was more than prepared for the direct faceoff, as he first took care of Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov and then won the round for Na’Vi by taking down Timofey “interz” Yakushin as well. Keeping the dream alive for 2 more rounds before they went down ‘16-13’ to lose the map and the series ‘2-1’.

Na’Vi will now be facing off against FURIA in the quarterfinals of the playoffs, while Gambit directly makes it into the semifinals ready to go up against the winner of G2 Esports and Astralis. It will be interesting to see if the 2 teams meet each other once again in the grand final or not.
