- FPX had signed the Heroic lineup earlier last year, but es3tag being picked up by Astralis resulted in the deal falling through.
Heroic’s in-game leader Casper “cadiaN” Møller slammed FunPlus Phoenix (FPX) with savage banter on Twitter, following their ‘2-0’ victory over the new CS:GO lineup at the currently ongoing ESL Pro League Season 13. CadiaN while expressing his feelings that it felt good to take down FPX without conceding even a single map, threw some shade at them as well by taunting “Did you sign the wrong team?”. The community labelled this tweet as a “banger” but extended support to FPX also, as they are currently playing with Finnish rifler Miikka “suNny” Kemppi as a stand-in for a couple of tournaments.

CadiaN throws shade at FPX
The Danish lineup of Heroic has kicked off their ESL Pro League Season 13 campaign really well. They are currently undefeated in the tournament having already taken down Renegades and BIG, before handing FPX a whitewash defeat yesterday on 10 March.
But this particular victory was a bit more important than the others, due to the history that comes attached along with it. The current roster being fielded by FPX is their second CS:GO lineup. The Chinese esports organization had originally entered competitive Counter-Strike in March 2020 after acquiring the then Heroic roster.
Unfortunately, the deal did not last long because soon after Patrick “es3tag” Hansen who was a member of the Heroic lineup was signed by Astralis as their sixth player. At the time, FPX was competing in their first CS:GO tournament with the Heroic lineup in Flashpoint Season 1. Due to es3tag’s untimely departure, the deal completely fell through and FPX let go of the entire lineup mid-tournament, signing a new CS:GO team instead.
Soon after FPX temporarily withdrew from CS:GO, returning in Jan 2021 following the acquisition of GODSENT’s lineup. However, FPX has failed to complete their roster so far as they continue to try out different players for the fifth and final position on the team. They have already tried playing with Chris “chrisJ” de Jong for a little more than a month, and are currently playing with suNny.
In the meanwhile, Heroic despite the rough phase in 2020 made a few roster changes and went on to win ESL One: Cologne 2020 Online - Europe. They were the best CS:GO team in the world for a while before witnessing a fall in performance once again.
All those who had a bit of a problem understanding what exactly cadiaN meant when he made that remark, will now understand the meaning behind his savage taunt. Having said that, it is still very early to dismiss FPX because they are still not a complete team and are quite young. The lineup they have at their disposal is quite strong and it will be interesting to see if they can make it into the playoffs or not.
